Multi-generational Family Buys Two Homes At Ashplats In The West Sussex Town Of East Grinstead

2 Minute Read

The Ashplats development in the West Sussex town of East Grinstead has become home to three generations of the same family. Ranging in age from 28 to 81, the family members live in neighbouring properties at the newly completed development of 30 family houses.

Heather and Bill Eslor – both age 81 – their daughter Julie, age 53, and granddaughter Holly, age 28, made the move to Ashplats from a large house in the East Sussex village of Groombridge, where they had all been living together. The family has bought two adjoining two-bedroom semi-detached houses, enabling the close family to live next door to each other, rather than under the same roof.

Bill Eslor said: “We had been living in our previous home for 30 years and have so many wonderful family memories to look back on. It was the perfect house to host many happy family occasions. Then when our youngest daughter Julie and granddaughter Holly moved back in with us, we adapted the layout, so they could have their own kitchen and living space. As the house was built in the 1970s, it needed regular upkeep, was very expensive to heat, and the garden was too large for us to maintain ourselves.

“Our eldest daughter Jane and her family live in East Grinstead. She told us about Ashplats, as it’s rare to see new homes come up for sale in this area. We paid a visit and really liked the traditional architecture, the overall design of the small development, and all the energy saving features. We didn’t actually look at any other options, as by reserving off-plan, this was an opportunity to buy two very stylish new homes next door to each other.

“We spent three months clearing out our old house and preparing to downsize. It was a positive experience and we were pleased to pass so many items onto local charities. We had originally braced ourselves for moving being a big upheaval, but it really wasn’t. Sigma Homes has worked with us every step of the way and the whole process has been incredibly smooth. The sales and customer care teams have done themselves proud and we are very happy! We are also converts to an open plan layout. Everything about moving here has been a joy. We can’t wait for spring to come, so we can enjoy spending time in the garden.”

Accessed off Holtye Road, the Ashplats development benefits from a secluded spot, surrounded by mature trees. The new homes, which are now all reserved, feature luxury internal accommodation designed across two floors, with each dwelling benefiting from private gardens and parking. All flooring, tiling and integrated appliances are included as standard within the individually designed, bespoke kitchens and bathrooms. There are built-in wardrobes to all bedrooms. All homes also benefit from high levels of insulation, to achieve an EPC high B rating, enabling purchasers to qualify for Green Mortgage rates.

The market town of East Grinstead is considered to be the capital of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also known as one of West Sussex’s most sought-after locations – and famed for its A-list homeowners. The town offers period architecture, boutique shops and an array of dining options, together with an excellent range of schooling and community facilities. Ashdown Forest is also close by, ensuring this new development offers all the convenience of a thriving town, with the tranquillity of the West Sussex countryside.

East Grinstead is popular with buyers relocating from across Surrey, who are looking to take advantage of the town’s lifestyle benefits. With a choice of local train stations offering frequent services to central London in under an hour, it is a much more cost-effective commuting location than other comparable towns and villages. Ashplats is located close to the A264, which is an arterial route into the town centre, served by regular bus services. The development is just over a mile from both East Grinstead and Dormans train stations.
